Debrah Scarlett is the pseudonym of Joanna Deborah Bussinger. Debrah Scarlett is a Norwegian artist and songwriter. She was born in Basel (Switzerland) and lived in Nittedal (Norway) from the age of 6 – 11. She moved back to Basel and started performing and established herself as a local solo artist and songwriter in her early youth and slowly transformed into the artist Debrah Scarlett.
In fall 2013 Joanna D. Bussinger participated The Voice of Norway, where she got to the semi-finals and made a big impression on the Norwegian audience with her distinctive voice.
She met musicians from The Voice that she planned working with in the future. Later next year in august 2014 she moved to Oslo and started collaborating & producing with Nicolai Herwell on her self-composed music. At that time she decided to stay for a year and see what happens…
Meanwhile she was asked to join a Swiss project called The Rumours, that involved 13 artist/musicians from different genres finding one style on stage. Debrah Scarlett wrote 2 singles for The Rumours album. Her piano ballade “Stars” was described in a swiss article as “a journey into endlessness, warm and intense”. The Rumours toured around Switzerland and Austria between October-November in 2014.
That was when Mørland contacted Debrah to collaborate on his duet song “A Monster Like Me”, which was picked for the final songs in the Norwegian Melodie Grand Prix.
Mørland and Debrah Scarlett won the Melodie Grand Prix and represented Norway in Eurovision in Vienna with his song “A Monster Like Me” 2015 and made it to the top 8.
